Wurts Street Bridge to be Closed for Inspection

The New York State Department of Transportation will perform a detailed inspection of the suspension bridge carrying Wurts Street over Rondout Creek in the City of Kingston. The Wurts Street Bridge inspection is scheduled to occur Monday, November 6, 2017 through Friday, November 10, 2017 and Monday November 13, 2017 through Friday November 17, 2017 from 7:00 a.m. through 5:00 p.m. each day. Traffic will be detoured to Route 9W during the closure periods. This detailed inspection is being performed for future repair work on the Wurts Street bridge. To perform the inspection, the bridge will be closed to all vehicular and pedestrian traffic.

10/15/2017 12:31 pm. Flatbush Ave. crossing In Kingston New York. Video by Wayne Platte Jr. This year’s Autumn Express will travel along one of the best rail journeys on the East Coast as it travels up and down the scenic Hudson River Valley. The excursion train will depart New York Penn Station, passing underneath the Hudson River and stopping in Newark, New Jersey to accept passengers and making a transition from electric to diesel power. After Newark, it will change directions and head toward Jersey City for a quick glimpse of the New York Harbor before heading north. It will arrive on the west bank of the Hudson River just below Haverstraw, where passenger trains have not run in decades. Read more.

Fallen firefighter remembered in Kingston, NY

Volunteer firefighter Roger D. Snyder, a member of A.H. WIcks Engine and Truck Co. who was killed in the line of duty in 1988, Snyder, a fire lieutenant, was struck and killed by a drunken driver while working as a member of A.H. Wicks on the capacity of fire police at the scene of an accident on the night of Nov. 19, 1988.

Mayor Steve Noble has issued an Executive Order closing Broadway on Friday, April 28, 2017. The Mayor wrote: Due to the continuation of the Greenkill Avenue Bridge project, and in the interest of assuring the safety of all residents and visitors to this area, certain traffic restrictions will be in effect. Broadway between Dederick Street and Thomas Street will be closed to vehicular and pedestrian traffic on Friday, April 28, 2017 at 8:00PM through Saturday, April 29, 2017 at 6:00AM.
