Kingston, N.Y. –After more than 33 years of public service, Kathleen Carey Mihm is retiring as Democratic Ulster County Elections Commissioner, effective December 31, 2010.
Mihm, a lifelong Democrat and Kingston native, has provided 33 years of public service to Ulster County, with positions that included Village Clerk of Rosendale, County Legislator for two terms, Deputy Board of Elections Commissioner for 23 years, and clerk to the Ulster County Legislature.
“It has been a wonderful and rewarding career,” said Mihm. “No matter the change, the Board of Elections’ mission has been and will continue to be serving the voting public in a bipartisan manner. The Board has many important roles to play, most importantly that every vote eligible should and will be counted no matter what.”
County Democratic Chairman Julian Schreibman added, “Kathy has served the Democratic Party with honor and distinction. She is a person you can count on through thick and thin and I wish her only the very best on her well deserved retirement.”
During her tenure the Board of Elections was instrumental in roll-out of a new voter information website, www.voteulster.com, and the introduction of new voting machines, that were used this past fall.
Mihm, a mother of two grown children and grandmother of four, added, “I adore my lovely children and grandchildren. I look forward to traveling and spending time with all of them.”
