NEWS: STATEMENT FROM ASSEMBLYMEMBER CAHILL ON CONGRESSMAN HINCHEY’S DECISION NOT TO SEEK RE-ELECTION

(Kingston, NY)  Assemblymember Kevin Cahill (D-Ulster, Dutchess) released the following statement:

“Congressman Maurice Hinchey’s legacy is one of great tenacity, principle and outstanding service to the people he has represented throughout his time in the New York State Assembly and United States House of Representatives.

“During his tenure in Albany, he was responsible for the foundation of New York State’s environmental protection laws, now considered a model for the world.  In Washington, the Congressman developed a well earned reputation as a person who stood strong for his beliefs, often in the face of overwhelming odds.

“I consider Maurice a personal friend and mentor.  I will continue to seek his good advice and counsel.

“I look forward to working with him for the duration of his time in public office. I wish him a long, healthy and prosperous life as a private citizen in the years to come.

“The people of the 101st Assembly and 22nd Congressional Districts have been well served by his activist representation.  I am grateful for all he has done and continues to do for the betterment of our state and nation.”
