The Shamrock Run was started by Jim Kelley Smith back in 1987. Jim was a great local runner and had the idea that a run preceding Kingston's, then recently launched, St Patrick's Day Parade, with cheering fans lining the roadside, would be a great way to get folks out in the spring and into running.

Ulster County: Special Informational Meeting‏

Chairman of the Ulster County Legislature Frederick J. Wadnola is calling a Special Informational Meeting to be held on Friday, March 11, 2011, at 1:00 PM in the Legislative Chambers, 6th Floor, County Office Building, 244 Fair Street, Kingston, NY. The purpose of the Special Informational Meeting is to receive information from senior staff of the New York State Department of Health Long-Term Care Division concerning the options that have been brought forward by the Ulster County Golden Hill Special Task Force -

This meeting has been organized because the options concerning the future operation of the GHHCC are influenced by complex regulatory, legal, financial and administrative issues. As policy-makers, Legislators must have direct access to factual and accurate information about these options.

The options fall into several broad categories:

1. County government could continue to own and operate the nursing home, but would have to renovate the existing facility or build a new one;
2. Transfer ownership and operation of the nursing home to a public benefit corporation;
3. Sell the nursing home to a private not-for-profit or proprietary entity;
4. Close the nursing home.

Each of these options must be fully understood in order to make this decision. It has been the intention of the Ulster County Golden Hill Special Task Force to bring this matter before the Legislature for a decision.
